During this 3-day sea kayak journey, you'll work with Michael Daugherty, author of AMC's Best Sea Kayaking of New England, to build the skills required for multi-day kayak touring in the coastal environment. Departing from Stonington, we'll have access to the dozens of islands that stretch out to the south, between Deer Isle and Isle au Haut. During 3 days on the water, we'll improve paddling efficiency and boat handling, practice cockpit navigation, and learn to plan trips which take advantage of tides and weather. With 2-nights of island camping, we'll consider Leave No Trace principles, island access, wilderness cuisine, and pre-trip planning. (For more comprehensive navigation training, consider joining us for a Practical Navigation course as well).
This journey is appropriate for paddlers who can perform a wet-exit, and are capable of paddling up to 7 miles in a day in up to 10 knots of wind.
