During this 3-day sea kayak journey, we'll work together to build the skills required for multi-day kayak touring in a coastal environment. Departing from Stonington or Brooklin, on the west side of Jericho Bay, we'll have access to the dozens of islands that stretch out to the south and east, along expansive Jericho Bay. During 3 days on the water, we'll have opportunities to practice cockpit navigation, improve our boat handling in moderate wind, and waves, and plan our travels to take advantage of tides and weather. With 2-nights of island camping, we'll consider Leave No Trace principles, island access, wilderness cuisine, and trip planning. (For more complete coverage of trip-planning and preparation, consider joining us for a Practical Navigation course as well).
This journey is appropriate for paddlers who are familiar with rescues and basic boat-handling, and are capable of paddling 15 miles in a day in 1-2 foot seas, and 10-15 knots of wind. If you are unsure of whether this course is right for you, we'd be happy to discuss the issue with you by phone.
$640 per person, includes all necessary equipment, and meals from Lunch on Tuesday through Lunch on Thursday.
