Four days (or 5) of comprehensive skills development and exploration for those who want to experience the best paddling venues that the stunning Acadia region has to offer. We’ll pick a new awesome destination each day, from the cliffs and caves of the Porcupine Islands, to the reversing tidal features such as Blue Hill Falls and Sullivan Falls. A five-day format allows us to explore a variety of areas, and progressively build skills over the week, so that by course-end each student has improved confidence, and a clear plan for how they’ll continue working towards their paddling goals after course-end. Paddling options will likely include reversing falls, coastal tide-races and rock gardens, as well as some open-water journey options.
During this longer-format course, Nate will focus on underlying fundamental themes of paddling performance, applying and refining them in a variety of situations over a number of days. The relationship that can be developed over a longer course, between coach and participants as well as between the experienced participants, has the benefit of providing for more personal and individualized instruction than is possible in a series of one-day classes. (Preference will therefore be given to students who are available for at least 4 days of this course.)
Participants should have previous instruction, and be comfortable spending about 2 hours at a time in their boat, and paddling up to 10 miles over the course of a day. Individualized instruction will allow for good support and challenges for paddlers who range from emerging L3 skills to solid L4 skills. Our goal is to build independence, so that paddlers possess the abilities and safety/management skills to continue building on their advancements through their own peer-paddling adventures.
