Our popular Whitewater for Sea Kayakers series is an opportunity to open your mind and expand your paddling skills. Geared towards those with previous sea kayak instruction, this introduction to whitewater paddling will help you adapt your existing skills to the river environment and to whitewater boats. Participants have found that their time on the river brought marked improvements to their sea kayaking, plus, a few of them found a new hobby!
Hosted by Todd Wright (ACA L4 WW IT, L5 Sea ITE, BCU L5 Sea Coach, BC L4 Coaching Diploma), and assisted by Nate Hanson (ACA L4 WW Instructor, L5 Sea Instructor, L3 Sea IT). We’re looking forward to a great time and some excellent learning for everyone on the river!
We’ll base the course in Central Vermont, to take advantage of the reliable whitewater rivers in that area, such as the White and the Connecticut. We’ve arranged to camp at a private property in Mad River Valley at little to no additional cost (maybe $25 total?). Top-notch WW equipment can be provided for a minimal fee.
$140 per day, plus $15/day equipment fee (Pyranha boats, Werner paddles, etc)

Covid-19 considerations: Risk awareness and mitigation is a subject that we are very familiar with in adventure sports, and this year there is an additional risk that we will be managing during our courses. While it is clear that likelihood of Covid transmission can be decreased by being outdoors, maintaining distance, and using face-coverings when possible, participants should be aware that we cannot completely eliminate risks of exposure to the novel coronavirus. This course will be conducted to decrease risks, following the guidelines of public health authorities of VT and Maine, and the advice of professional organizations including the ACA and British Canoeing.
Just as with our on-water risks, covid risks will be discussed with participants during the course, and individual participants can decide what they are comfortable with. (In particular, we will discuss how to accommodate people’s preferences for shuttle procedures.) We will do everything we can to accommodate everyone’s personal comfort level throughout the course.
If a participant decides that they need to cancel because of Covid concerns, we will offer a full-refund anytime before the course.
