The Bouncy Months Arrive

Hey Kayakers!

It’s been great to paddle with so many of you already this year. After a busy summer, and a wonderful bit of time off in August for boating, biking and being outdoors with my family, I’m looking forward to what the rest of the sea kayaking season has in store! Fall is a great month to find adventures on the Maine coast.

September and October both bring courses to expand your abilities in Rock Gardens and Tidal Falls. While these two groups of courses are similar, the ones in September (7th and 8th) are a bit more paddling-skills oriented, while a new 2-day course on October 4th and 5th is aimed at managing safety and solving problems when playing in these environments. I think it’ll be a great combination challenging fun and problem-solving.

One or two spaces are still available for an exploration of the Downeast coast with me and Joe Berkovitz at the end of September. On this 4-Day Journey, we’ll get out to some of our favorite islands of the Downeast coast, and develop skills around navigation, tidal planning, and expedition paddling.

Wrapping up the season in the second half of October, we're offering two higher-level instructor courses this year. Todd Johnstone-Wright (Synaptic Sport, LLC) will be running a L5 Instructor Development Workshop, October 11-13 in the Ellsworth Area. And on October 27th-30th I’ll be offering a L4 Instructor Certification Workshop here at Pinniped Kayak. (These can also satisfy update requirements for L3, L4 or L5 instructors.)

P&H Custom Sea Kayaks has done a great job of keeping those beautiful boats headed our way, despite the pervasive shipping complications on the Atlantic. If you’re thinking about a new boat for next season, please get in touch soon. Ordering early in September gives you the best chance for being in the water early next season!

I hope we can get together on the water once more before the paddling season wraps up, but either way, go find some great fall adventures in the woods, at sea, or on the river before it’s time for skis and skates to come out of the basement!

Cheers,
Nate
